Activities

Variety really is the spice of life and at Heaton House we make sure that different types of activities are continually available. These include:

  • Inter-generational Stimulation: This is a technical way of saying, we work with people of all ages, especially young children. We were one of the first care homes in the local area to introduce this type of activity over 5 years ago. Both our residents and our young visitors love getting together and we have seen the positive effects improve outcomes for many of our residents.
  • Crafting: We love getting stuck here at Heaton House and we enjoy various crafting activities such as painting, card making, and flower arranging
  • Exercise: we have regular indoor and outdoor sessions such as movement to music and skittles. Plus we always take an active interest in major sporting events
  • Seaside: A beach hut can be booked for our residents to visit.
  • Music: we have weekly music sessions including singalongs, and presentations from local musicians, theatre groups and choirs
  • Culture: we offer weekly poetry reading sessions which is very relaxing and we also have a wide-range of large print books for those who want to read for themselves. We also have specific television viewing areas for those who want to watch a favourite show.
  • Technology: in keeping with the times, we have a VR headset for our residents to use. As well as an iPad, iPod with individual music choices and an extensive DVD library for film afternoons.

Whatever activities appeal to our residents, we work to get them engaged. Our hairdressing sessions are often a hugely entertaining morning, with much laughter to be heard and we often have animal visitors too, including dogs, owls and even bearded dragons!
